INTUITIVE EATING- YOUR BODY KNOWS WHAT IT NEEDS
As a society, we are inundated with messages about what we should eat, when we should eat, and how much we should eat. Often, these messages are contradictory and confusing, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from our bodies and intuition.
Even tough I’m sharing nutrition tips and insights on this blog, I personally follow my intuition when it comes to eating and nutrition.
Intuitive eating offers a way out of any negative eating habits and cycles by allowing us to reconnect with our bodies and trust our own inner wisdom.
Intuitive eating is a non-diet approach to eating
It emphasizes listening to your body's signals of hunger and fullness, rather than external rules or restrictions. It involves tuning in to your body's needs, desires and giving yourself permission to eat what you truly feel like. This process also ‘‘automatically’’ involves letting go of guilt and shame around food and trusting your body to guide you towards a balanced and satisfying diet.
For me, intuitive eating has been a way to connect to food how I’m supposed to connect to food- The natural way.
No doubt- I’m picky with food and if I imagine I have to eat something super fast like ‘‘on the way’’- I’d rather choose not to eat at all.
I really struggled with the ‘‘rules’’ of eating habits which resulted at some point in not enjoying food anymore and having no appetite at all. Until I decided to follow my own rules and eat as much or little as I want, to eat whenever and wherever I want, and to eat what feels good to me eating (and it varies everyday). It allowed me to enjoy food again and savor the experience of eating- as I FELT FREE.
Of course, intuitive eating might not be easy for everyone in the beginning. It requires trust and patience, and it can be challenging to let go of old habits and beliefs around food (therefore you can start with following suggested tips around nutrition & healthy eating habits). There must be a willingness to be vulnerable and honest with yourself about your relationship with food and your body- be your own observer and teacher.
The rewards are worth it as you truly can experience greater self-compassion, improved body image, reach your natural body weight and a greater sense of freedom around food.
Plus your are strengthening and practicing your mind- body connection and over all intuition daily.
Give it a try :)
