YOUR MOON CYCLE- SACRED BLEEDING

The menstrual cycle governs the flow- not only of our fluids, but also the flow of information and creativity. Many women find that they are at their peak expression to the outer world during the first half of their cycle (which coincides with the waxing of the moon until it’s full) until ovulation. At this time our bodies secrete hormones which are associated with our sexual attractiveness to others. So we are naturally and in general more receptive during this time (also more receptive to new ideas, co-creating etc.)

In the last days of the waning moon leading up to the new moon is a time for reflection and identifying what needs to be changed in our lives. During this phase the veils between the worlds of the seen and the unseen, the conscious and the unconscious are at their thinnest. That is why during menstruation (as well as pregnancy and menopause) our emotions and perceptions are heightened, and we are most in tune with our inner knowing. This is the time that we receive the messages we need to hear from our Souls.

In fact, since ancient times, many cultures have referred to women having their menstrual periods as being “on their moon.”

It’s our Divine wisdom crying out. During this time, women prefer to stick with mundane tasks and not take on projects that require much outgoing, expressing energy. It’s a time to listen, rest and heal.

One of the most interesting things about the moon and the menstrual cycle is that, even in modern times where many women are not connected to the lunar cycles, they still experience the effect of the moon to some degree. For example, when women live together, or spend a lot of time together - their ovulations and menstruation tend to be in sync.

4 hormonal phases in our cycle:

Woman go through 4 distinct hormonal stages every month much like the moon, which also has four phases. Although they don’t always sync up, knowing what phase you are in can be very useful, assisting you to harness your energy.

The 4 phases are:

Menstrual (new moon): rest, reflect and set intentions

Follicular (waxing moon): begin taking movement, initiate creative tasks

Ovulation (full moon): present, be in the front of humans, collaborate. Shine.

Luteal (waning moon): complete obligations, live focused, finish projects

The two most common cycles are:

New moon (white moon) cycle

This cycle mirrors the traditional cycle of the moon and mother earth, a woman with a white moon cycle is said to be in the Mother phase of her life. She might want to get pregnant, start a family or focus on nurturing and raising her children. However, having a white moon cycle does not necessarily mean a woman wants to start a family or focus on nurturing and raising children. It could also indicate that she needs to prioritize self-care and devote her resources inward. In the past, white moon women were often favored by the patriarchy as their energy was directed towards men and children.

Full moon (red moon) cycle

Woman who get their period around the full moon are on the red moon cycle. Historically, the red moon cycle belonged to the high priestesses, the healers, the witches, the medicine women. These women are focused on channeling their creative energy inward.

Women with a red moon cycle have a deep desire for self-actualization, self-growth, creativity, business, mentorship, and development. Everything they learn and experience helps empower them from within, enabling them to empower the women around them.

These women may also be mothers and raising children but they are focused on being in a sacred circle with their community, teaching and leading others.

The red moon cycle is also said to offer a deep connection to ones sexual energy, the main potent energy that the Patriarchy has tried to disconnect us from over decades.
